Teesta, Dharla & Dudhkumar rivers may cross danger levels in next 24 to 48 hours, warns BWDB

In a Nutshell:
- River levels rose across Rangpur division during the past 24 hours.
- Flood risks cover parts of Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram.
- Brahmaputra and Jamuna levels may continue rising for five days.
- Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast in northern Bangladesh and upstream India.
- BWDB said no major Brahmaputra basin flood is expected.
Why it Matters
The Teesta at Dalia was only 9 centimetres below danger level on Monday afternoon. Further upstream rainfall could quickly inundate nearby floodplains before river levels stabilise.
What We Think
Another flood warning comes shortly after floods and landslides left more than 1 million people stranded across seven districts, including Chattogram and Bandarban. Bangladesh can forecast rising rivers, but readiness must also include shelters, rescue teams, food, clean water and livestock protection. Authorities now face another test of whether damage can be limited before communities are flooded.
